Why The Upside

Belgium’s national public broadcaster, VRT, wanted to fast track their innovation efforts to ensure they don’t loose connection with critical audience segments, especially the younger demographic. The Upside was appointed to help set up and support an innovation unit to deliver against this task.

How We Approached the Challenge

  • We developed plans for a brand new internal innovation unit, VRT Start-up, with suggested team make-up, internal processes, and funding
  • We were partners on the first few innovation cycles, helping the core team to explore, develop, validate and sell in new content formats and products
  • We introduced new approaches to consumer research, product prototyping and cross-department collaboration

Impact

VRT Start-up has created a marked shift in the company’s innovation culture, leading to new teams, new talent, and 3 new successfully launched formats.
